OUR VALUES.
As high school sweethearts, Vicki and Mike knew they wanted to build a life together. They were raised on the same values, growing up in families that put an emphasis on hard work, strong family ties and a good education. Vicki and Mike got married in 1974, before heading off to continue their education together at KU. Vicki graduated from KU's School of Pharmacy and went to work as a pharmacist, while Mike pursued a medical degree and started a practice as an orthopedic surgeon in Topeka. After graduation, they started their own family, raising their two sons in Southwest Topeka and becoming active in the boys' school activities and sports teams. A lifelong Kansan and lifelong Republican, Vicki's roots in our community run deep. She has worked more than 32 years, serving our families and seniors as a local pharmacist. She's also been actively involved as a volunteer with Marian Clinic, Midland Hospice Care, Capper Foundation, CASA and ERC.

OUR VOICE.
But, it was her pharmacy experience and her commitment to bettering our state that drew Vicki to run for the Legislature. As a pharmacist, Vicki found errors in the Kansas Medical Assistance Program, errors that were costing the state millions of dollars. She became a voice for change - speaking up about ways Medicaid could be more cost-effective in its drug rebate program and implementing her plan, which resulted in more than $391 million in recouped dollars for the state. Vicki knew she could do more and filed to run for the Kansas Senate. Since that time, she has helped passed significant legislation to reform the budget process; protect funding for our schools, early childhood education and Washburn University; eliminate the estate tax on Kansas families; and bring new jobs to our community. But, for Vicki, the most important title she has is "Grandma." She knows that the decisions made by our Legislature today will lay the groundwork for our children's future. That's why she isn't afraid to stand up to the politicians at the Statehouse who are more concerned with continuing the status quo than they are with finding common sense solutions. As our voice, Vicki is willing to ask the difficult questions, make the tough calls and stand up for what is right.
